PEE WEE CLASS SPECIAL ATTRACTION
New for 2024 is the Pee Wee Special Attraction on Saturday, May 18 during our shows. We want to get kids excited about show their dogs because, after all, they are the future of the sport.
Purpose of the Class: Allow 5-9 year old pre-Junior Showmanship children the opportunity to take their dog into a show ring, accompanied by a parent or guardian, to learn the basics of showing from a real AKC approved judge.
Registration: This even is free but each child must be entered in the Pee Wee Class. Entries are taken the day of the event at the Club Tent up to 15 minutes before ringtime. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. The dog must have the proper show collar and lead, and the parent or responsible adult must maintain control of the dog while outside of the ring.
How it works: When it’s time, the child will be called into the ring handling his/her dog and accompanied by his/her parent or responsible adult. The judge will mentor the child with age-appropriate information to help prepare him/her for the AKC Junior Showmanship shows. Once the “judging” is complete the child receives a participation ribbon and exits the ring.
What to know:
- A dog must be at least four months of age to enter the Pee Wee class.
- Bitches in season will not be allowed to participate. If pre-entered, a dog may be substituted that meets the eligibility requirements as specified by the club.
- All dogs entered must have the proper lead and collar.
- A responsible adult must be present with the child both inside and outside the ring. The adult is to maintain control of the dog outside of the ring.
- At an All-Breed event, all AKC fully recognized and Miscellaneous Class breeds must be allowed to enter, including dogs with a PAL listing.
- All-American dogs (mixed breed) are allowed to enter.
- Dog does not need to be registered to participate.
- In addition to an entry, a release must be signed by the child’s parent or legal guardian.
